3 Wheel Double Buggy

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel double pushchair wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs, but some models can be converted to accommodate an additional seat or carrycot by converting adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). You'll also find that some models will allow you to add a ride-on board to older children who wish to walk, but need some assistance.

Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for city streets. It's easy to maneuver, and it has an enormous basket that has plenty of storage. It can accommodate twins from at birth and will accept two car seats, or a carrycot with seat. The seats have to face forward and there is no space to store a shopping bag under the seat. You will need an additional side bag.

If you like to travel off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great choice. It's a side by side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. It is easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb up and over kerbs. It also has a handbrake that is attached to the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats have a multi-position reclining with UPF 50+ sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun doesn't reach your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple by the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack board designed for mobile older children.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most popular on the market. This is due to their outstanding comfort. It's an all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension that makes light work of bumpy surfaces. It can be used in 30 seating configurations and includes a built-in ride-on for older kids who prefer walking, as well as a 'cinema' seating mode that raises the back seat to allow for better visibility.

Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a brilliant single buggy from day 1 that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3 wheel pushchair!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is especially useful for parents who have children in your car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie, which permits the best lie-flat position. Or car seat adapters that work with a wide range of brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension in a 3 wheel double buggy is vital to how it will be easy for you and your baby to push. It is important to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump in the road. This is particularly relevant if you drive on rough terrain like grass or unpaved roads. Some models also come with front wheels that lock to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Some models use air-filled tyres, which give you a great all-terrain ride, but can be susceptible to punctures, therefore, make sure you have spares in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres that are designed to take the bumps and are less susceptible to punctures, but you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back should you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath put the Urban Glide 2 through its paces with her infant and three years old, and found that it coped really well on tricky terrain: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy, cobbles and dirt tracks easily and was able to maneuver around corners and climb up and down kerbs. Folding

A three-wheel double buggy can fold up quite neatly to store it. You can find options that fold flat and then stand up (as as if they're in a pushchair position) as well as those that pop open to reveal a more umbrella-style fold with the option of a brake operated by hand. The more wheels the buggy is equipped with, in general, the easier it is to maneuver on rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the average size. You will have more stability, and it will be less likely that you be forced to flip or tip your child.

The iCandy Wave is a popular option. It can be used with an infant car seat from birth and then transformed into a double buggy side-byside when your child is old. It's a lightweight option that makes it simple to push and comes with extra features, including bumper bars and a raincover.

Another alternative is the phil&teds sport that is a future-proof model since it's great as a single buggy from day one and can be adapted to take 2 (or even 3 wheel twin stroller!) All of this fits into its small footprint. It is an innovative three-wheel design that includes a sling for better manoeuvrability and stability.

This is one of the most comfortable double buggies to jog in with your children. It comes with a front wheel that can be locked, that will allow you to keep your balance on hills or off-road terrain. It also has a spacious undercarriage basket, a movable handlebar and soft suspension for an enjoyable ride.

It's a lightweight and compact option that folds by one hand, making it great for travel. It's compatible with a broad variety of infant car seats, and comes with an undercarriage basket that can be pulled out that can be used to store items. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it does have some distinctive features that make it a good value choice, including its simple one-click fold, and numerous extras like a bumper bar and raincover.

One thing that people love about a quality triple wheeled double buggy is its storage capabilities. Certain models, like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket as well as two handy zip pockets inside the hood to keep keys and your phone easily accessible. It's also designed to be able to handle a little rough terrain making it a good option for family walks and all-terrain strolls.

Other models, like the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and ability to transport twins or a toddler and a child. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack' board).
